Historical outline:Former name: Münsterberg
Two castle functioned in Ziębice within the space of history. First of them arose probably in the initiative of duke Bolko I of Świdnica-Jawor, who reigned over the town in the years of 1290-1301. That stronghold was destroyed in 1429 by the Hussites, and the war with Maciej Korwin in 1488 brought about its razing to the ground. The castle has never been rebuilt, but its traces were yet visible in the XVIIIth cent.
The second castle, which from the beginning was being constructed with the thought of representative aims, and not defensive ones, sprang into existence around 1500. It was a magnificent palace, the building of which was finished probably in the years of 1511-1536 in the rule of duke Karol I Podiebrad. At the end of the XVIIIth cent., in its place the church was erected.
