Historical outline:Former name: Welkersdorf, Talkenstein castle
Podskale castle was built around 1207 probably by Henryk Brodaty. The stronghold, before its annexation to Bohemia in 1368 as well later, belonged to the house of Talkenberg. One of its members – Bernard – engaged in banditry. It was a direct reason for destroying the castle. It was conquered in 1476 by burghers from Lwówek and armies by king Maciej Korwin. Miners from Kowary, who mined the walls of the castle, played a crucial part in victory. The walls of the stronghold were dismantled in 1818, while already in 1830 the first works aiming at securing the remnants of the castle were conducted.
