Driving directions:Driving down the road no 2 from Kutno towards Warsaw, in Bedlno you need to turn into the road no 583 towards Żychlin. En route you should turn left towards Oporów and drive ahead all the time to the village. Before the cemetery you ought to turn right and drive on ahead. At a given moment the further drive straight on will not be possible, since the castle gate will bar the road. At this place you need to turn left, circle the part of the wall and there you can find the entrance to the castle area.
Historical outline:The history of building the castle in Oporów is cloaked in secrecy up to this day. Jan Długosz affirmed that the founder of the castle was the bishop of Włocławek and the archbishop of Gniezno, Władysław Oporowski and the first mention of the fortalice in Oporów originates in 1418. However, contemporary research suggest that the castle arose in three stages and only the last of them and not necessarily, might be ascribed to Władysław Oporowski. It is known, however, that since the beginning of the XVIIth cent. the foundation was often changing hands and was being rebuilt. Surprisingly, construction works, however, did not alter late medieval appearance of the castle considerably. Its present appearance is the result of the renovation and regothization from the 50s of the XXth cent.
