Jelcz-Laskowice

State of preservation:		Only walls of ground floor have remained of the castle

Driving directions:

Jelcz-Laskowice is situated south-east of Wrocław. If you enter Jelcz-Laskowice from the south, down the road no 455 from the side of Oława, past the board with the name of a place you should turn into the first asphalt street across to the left (it is at the turn of the main road to the right). After travelling around 50m, at junction you need to turn left again so as to turn right into a paved road after next 100m. You ought to drive down that road about 500m circling the island from the left side, and then turn into the first dirt road to the right. There you must leave your car and go on foot further as far as arable field. At this spot, the road, along which you have come there, leads on straight ahead, but you have to turn right into the road running through the brink of the field to the nearby forest. In that forest, on the peninsula there are the ruins of the castle on the left side.


Historical outline:

Former name: Jeltsch

Beginnings of the castle in Jelcz probably date back to 1268 when on the initiative of archbishop of Salzburg the defensive manor was put up there. Before 1277 Jelcz became the duke’s property, and in the XIVth cent. the manor was converted into the castle. In 1508 the townsman of Wrocław Konrad von Sausma, who made the following rebuilding of the defensive foundation, became the owner of the castle. In 1623 the fire consumed the castle, and in the middle of the Thirty Years’ War it was demolished, diminishing in its significance and falling into a ruin, which it has been until today.
