Driving directions:
Gryfów Śląski lies 30km north-west of Jelenia Góra, from which the road no 30 leads to it. After entering Gryfów Śląski you need to head for the center and reach the market square. There you ought to find the Zaułek Street. The easiest way is to set your back in the north direction (there the road no 30 from Lubań goes to the market square) and your face southward (there the road no 360 towards Leśna and Świecie goes from the market square). In such position the Zaułek St. is on the half to eleven hour (that is in the south-east corner). At its end, above the garage there are visible the stairs to the walls and a few stones. Apparently these are the relics of the castle.
Historical outline:
The former name: Greifenberg
First information on Gryfów occur in historical sources from 1249. There was the then a small settlement which in 1354 obtained civic rights. Since that moment ensued a rapid development of the town. Also in the XIVth and XVth cent. the town was surrounded by defensive walls, within which a small castle was erected. Unfortunately nothing more is known on its subject.
