Driving directions:Driving down the road no 79 from Warsaw towards Kozienice and Sandomierz, just beyond the place Góra Kalwaria you need to turn left towards Czersk. Then drive down the main road to the Market Square, park there and cross the church backyard to the castle.
Historical outline:The most probably the duke Janusz I Starszy built the castle. The construction started in 1388 lasted to the beginning of the XVth cent., however in the next years the consecutive stronghold owners extended it even 3 times.
In the XVth cent. the castle became Bolesław IV’s property, Janusz I’s grandson, and then it was passed to other dukes of Masovia hands. As a result of incorporation of duchy of Czersk to the Crown, which ensued in 1526, the stronghold since 1547 became the queen Bona’s property. In the middle of the XVIIth cent. the castle was blown up by the Swedes, however in the years of 1762-1766 the marshal F. Bieliński was attempting to rebuild it. Eventually the stronghold was abandoned after the Polish Republic’s collapse, and in the following years it served as the quarry.
