By the castle is located a paid parking lot. However considering the odd opening hours of the castle, it generally stands empty. For that reason it is unprofitable for the employee to stay there, thanks to that you can often park for free. |
Searching difficulty: |
|
The castle is visible from a distance, signposts lead to it, but despite that fact reaching it is complicated, and the labyrinth of alleys does not make things easy. |

|
The access to the gate of the castle is not easy, because you need to overcome short, but the sharp climb. The excursion from the market square is even more tiresome. |

|
Thinking about a nice castle you ought to think about this place. If only the entrance was free and available at any time, this would be the ideal castle. |
Driving directions:Bolków is situated 20 km on the north-west off Wałbrzych. If you enter Bolków from the north, down the road no 3 from Jawor, the castle will be visible opposite at the hilltop. As to reach it you need to head for the center, and there follow the signposts to the castle. However, you should not turn off the thinking and the sense of orientation, since these plates are very ambiguous.
Historical outline:The former name: Bolkenhain, Bolkoburg Castle
The castle in Bolków arose at the end of the XIIIth cent. The duke Bolesław II the Bald probably began the construction, and his son Bolko I finished it. However, exists the hypothesis that already in the middle of the XIIIth cent. the erection of the castle was begun there, since the castle appeared for the first time in the written sources from 1277. Already in the XIVth cent. the castle was rebuilt and enforced, and the next construction works took place in 1540. In 1646 the stronghold was conquered by the Swedes and in the second half of the XVIIth cent. diminished in its importance. In 1703 the castle was sold to the Cistercians from Krzeszów, who rebuilt its interiors. Prussian country took it over from the Cistercians and at the beginning of the XIXth cent. the demolition of the stronghold began. Fortunately also in the XIXth cent. the first preservative works took place and thanks to it the castle survived till now.
